How do other women handle breastfeeding alone?

The short answer is, “Not well.”

Donna Bruschi, IBCLC

For 20 years I led a breastfeeding support group (or three) every week and watched mama after mama blossom into confident, empowered breastfeeding mothers.

In 2019, I stopped for a few months to ease my Dad over the the rainbow bridge. He passed, we had his memorial service, and we went into lockdown for COVID-19, and it all happened in the span of a few weeks.

I have continued seeing clients individually. I haven’t done any groups. I have traveled from bunker to bunker and I am doing the best lactation consulting of my life.

It’s been two years. We are all still living in some kind of lockdown …and y’all aren’t doing that great!

There are success stories–some flowers do well in a drought! And some of you have an excellent support system and are thriving. But most of you are anxious, confused, overwhelmed and second-guessing your own bodies when it comes trusting your process of breastfeeding.

Because, women were never meant to do this alone.

We are meant to live in close-knit communities with our mothers, sisters, aunties, and elders.

We are meant to be learning breastfeeding and mothering by watching, asking, intuiting, and also, by being specifically taught by our friends, sisters and elders:  “This, is how you make a curry. This, is how you make cookies. This is how you clean the clothes. This is how you rock the baby.

Here is an outline of the pilot project:

The Breastfeeding Café is an online café with a forum, a library, virtual and real life (safe) meetups.

It’s a place to settle in with a cup of coffee, tea or wine and enjoy mothering in its many forms. We gather to share our stories, to laugh, cry, anticipate, commiserate, and to celebrate. Our attitude is full of encouragement, acceptance, empathy and kindness.

  • Enjoy breastfeeding your baby
  • Be yourself
  • Make some new friends
  • Ask questions about anything
  • Research our reference library
  • Get opinions and breastfeeding strategies from real moms who don’t live that far from you

Membership is limited. Your safety is paramount. I personally know and have invited each member. We use our real names and have zero tolerance for bullying, name calling, shaming, etc.

Wherever you are in your life with breastfeeding, you are welcome.

Are you breastfeeding, combo feeding, pumping, expecting, or have given up in the past? if you are looking for company, some guidance, curated reference materials, healing and a whole lot more fun, you are invited to join me in this pilot program. Our aim is to help you achieve your breastfeeding goals, make peace with the past, and be happy, confident, caring and connected with your heart, your baby and your friends.

The Pilot Program is March 25 – May 8, 2022.

The Launch Party is March 25, 2022 at 10:00 am
